Why Charity?

The Bhagavad-gita (18.5) states:

yajna daana tapah karma
na tyaajyam kaaryam eva tat
yajno daanam tapas caiva
paavanaani manishinaam

“Acts of sacrifice, charity and penance are not to be given up; they must
be performed. Indeed, sacrifice, charity and penance purify even the
great souls.”

Wealth is bestowed upon a person due to that person’s good deeds in the past. When that wealth is shared with needy and worthy persons, it purifies the donor and brings auspiciousness. Hence charity is highly recommended in the Indian culture, even for the great souls.

According to Bhagavad-gita (17.20)

deshe kaale ca paatre ca
tad daanam saatvikam smritam

“Charity given at the proper time and place and to a worthy person is considered to be in the mode of goodness.”

Having decided to give charity, it is important to choose a proper place, a proper time, and a proper recipient.

The DaanPaatra strives to present you persons with worthy causes at the proper place and time. The DaanPaatra will also make sure that your charity is used for the purpose you intend it to be used for.
